Stratosfeer winter 2018/2019
Re: Stratosfeer winter 2018/2019

""The last thing we look at for this Sixth Winter 2019/20 update is what happens should to QBO not manage to complete its transition from west to east during the Winter and we finish up with linger, dying westerly QBO though the Winter.
This is relatively uncommon and has only happened four times in Winter since the 1950s. Those lingering westerly QBO Winters are 1959/1960, 1961/1962, 1969/1970 and 1978/1979.''
Putting those four Winters together we see a much stronger blocking signal around Greenland and the Arctic through all three Winter months. December, January, February and March all have a strong northern blocking signal and a greater chance of being cold with a lingering westerly QBO than when the QBO is switching from its west to east phase.
Combining these four Winters together unsurprisingly shows a good chance of a cold Winter when we have a lingering west QBO. Blocking is strong and perfectly positioned around Greenland to force cold air out of the Arctic and into the UK and northern Europe.""

Geeft hoop voor de winterliefhebber. Maar ik doe er niet zoveel mee....
Re: Stratosfeer winter 2018/2019
